Stanmore Insurance is a chartered commercial insurance broker based in Bolton, with a long-standing reputation for great customer service that stretches back over more than six decades. It’s an owner-managed business that believes in providing clear, tailored, and cost-effective advice for its customers. The challenge

Our challenge from Stanmore was to design and build a website to support the company’s new digital strategy.

Their goal was to attract more traffic to the site, to position Stanmore as a trusted authority on insurance, and a provider of consistently first-class service. Most crucially, Stanmore needed to turn the site’s visitors into quality leads.

Stanmore’s existing website was around 12 years old, and with its many failings the site constituted more of a liability than an asset. It was not optimised in any way, keyword-focused organic traffic was non-existent and unsurprisingly, the site generated no leads whatsoever.

The solution

We began by creating a digital strategy for Stanmore, to help design a website that truly represented their respected brand and excellent customer service. However, the ultimate goal was to deliver a website that would generate ROI, turning visitors into leads and, ultimately, customers. We worked to understand Stanmore’s clients and business types  by deep diving into customer personas. A new site map and customer flow were worked out. Detailed research into keyword strategy was conducted. Content for every page was re-written according to SEO keywords and the tone of voice guidelines we had previously created.

The previous Stanmore site had been built in HTML, which made it difficult for the team to update. Our build would be a WordPress CMS to allow easy in-house updating and editing by Stanmore themselves. In terms of the look of the site, Stanmore were clear they wanted to stand out from stereotypical insurance broker sites. Their focus is on people, so images of the Stanmore team are a major feature of the site. Content is presented by specific market sectors and insurance types, to target audience groups according to their position in the marketing ‘funnel’.  To boost lead generation, contact forms are positioned at the bottom of every page, and strong CTAs are a prominent feature.

The results

A small launch campaign led to a spike in visitors, and after a couple of months sales leads started to come in via the website – a new and welcome experience for Stanmore. And site visibility and traffic continues to increase. Since the site has been built, users have increased by 63% and sessions have increased by 28%.

Also, the site is far more easy to manage for Stanmore, because now updating and adding new content can be handled in-house by the Marketing team. And importantly, SEO can be continually refined and adjusted, quickly and simply.
